The original structure, erected in 1912, includes eight units that have been totally remodelled; with a central hallway to a newer area of the complex. The entire building renovation and building project was completed in 2000. The general location of the apartments was once the location of the East New Market Academy, and the Union Chapel, a structure that was torn down in 1892. The two-story, nine-bay north elevation was the original entrance to the building and is best recognized by the projecting center section with iron gates. The building is an historic structure and is listed as an historic landmark within the East New Market Historic District, Dorchester County, Maryland. The village of East New Market emerged during the last quarter of the eighteenth century with prominent dwellings that were constructed by notable Dorchester families. The area was generally known for its quality of life, agricultural production, cultural and educational opportunities for many years.
